The ‘Lipinski’ Guarneri del Gesù

Cremona 1742 - Violin

True Copy by Florian Leonhard Fine Violins. The 1742 Lipinski Guarneri del Gesù violin is a marvellous late period example. This is due to the fact that it is slightly larger and therefore has more volume in the body, and has a very strong G string paired with brilliance at the top of the violin, providing many different colours throughout. This is why for many players this is the most favourable period of this master’s work. It was Daniel Hope’s choice to play this violin and we have had good access to it, particularly before he started playing with it. We were able to take all the plaster moulds, form and thickness, to understand the wood that he used in order to create a very similar sound. This model, for those who favour Del Gesù, is an excellent model to play and is probably one of our most successful models. It has a two-piece back, where the pattern of flames create a symmetric look to the back.
