Client Testimonials

We are proud to have helped countless musicians find their instruments over the past 25+ years. Here are some of our clients who have found their instruments through Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason MBE

Cellist and Ambassador

“FLFV have been incredibly supportive of me over the years I have got to know them. They were so dedicated in matching me with a sponsor for the beautiful Amati cello I’ve had the joy of playing since 2016. I’ve also been incredibly lucky to play on a Marie bow, which again the use of was facilitated by them. Their expertise, and also the commitment to supporting young artists like me, is amazing.”

Leonidas Kavakos

Internationally acclaimed Violinist and Conductor

“A violin expert should respect the instruments, and honour both the makers for whom the instrument is the essence of their art, and the musicians who use them as an expression of their soul. He also has to have the eye and instinct to guide and advise. Florian Leonhard is one of very few in the world who fulfils this profile.”

Maxim Vengerov

Internationally acclaimed Violinist and Conductor

“As a soloist whose demanding schedule requires me to travel every second day to dierent parts of the globe, I need an instrument which is highly reliable in spite of humidity and temperature change. Thanks to Florian’s restoration and fine-tuning, my Stradivari now has a more developed and focused bass, and it is more responsive and powerful, allowing me to achieve the optimum sound.”

Daniel Hope

International soloist and Broadcaster

“Florian Leonhard Fine Violins offered superb selection, service and integrity throughout the process of choosing my instrument. In the complex and unusual world of fine violins, it can often be daunting for a performer in search of the ideal instrument. Florian not only found my Del Gesù for me, but facilitated the process of acquisition greatly.”

Guy Braunstein

Ex-Concertmaster, Berlin Philharmonic

“For me a violin becomes a fine violin when it projects a sound full of character and colour, has its own personality, but allows the player’s style to emerge properly, and of
course it must be adjusted in such a way that it can provide those characteristics in the long term.

Florian Leonhard has the rare ability to understand the needs of the musician and the instrument equally, and to serve both to achieve the perfect match.”

Hugo Ticciati

Violinist, Leader and Conductor

“Florian’s legendary, discerning eye and intuitive feel for the unique capabilities of each individual instrument are complemented by his consummate knowledge of the craft of the luthier. These skills, honed over decades, give him an unrivalled insight into the correlations between vibrating wood and tonal quality. Even more importantly, Florian understands that a violin only reveals its special magic when it is partnered with the right musician. For me personally, Florian has shown a matchless commitment to discovering and fostering this unique bond between instrument and performer.”

Ludwig Balser

LGT Young Soloist

“The staff at the London Store of Florian Leonhard Fine Violins were very kind and helpful! I had such a great time finding my bow from Victor Fetique (1925) with Florian Leonhard and Joe Stupple! I am extremely happy with the condition of the bow and can’t wait to explore more characters and colours with it!”

New Making Testimonials

Florian Leonhard Fine Violins bench copies are widely sought-after for their remarkable likeness to the originals and the rich and powerful sound they produce. This collection of testimonials comes from artists who own or play one of our copies.

Professor Leonid Kerbel

Brussels Conservatory (Belgium) and Royal College of music (London)

"The uncompromising quality in every aspect of violin making made me passionate about the work of the Florian Leonhard Fine Violins workshop.

It is this uncompromising knowledge, sensitivity and love for beautiful tone that made me decide to purchase my instrument, a Stradivari copy, from this outstanding workshop. After each performance I make, solo, recital or chamber music, the audiences ask me: ‘Are you playing on an Italian instrument?’ They are completely astonished when they learn that it is a modern instrument with an Old Italian sound!"

Professor Tomotada Soh

Royal Academy of Music (London)

"The violin you kindly sold me, made by you and your expert craftsmen in your workshop just gets better every day. The sound is golden and it carries to the back of huge concert halls. It is my pride and joy and admired by professionals and students around the world, it is a remarkable instrument and looks absolutely beautiful.

Thank you for making such fine instruments and giving such pleasure to all musicians."

Katerina Nazarova

Soloist

"I was originally loaned my instrument, a copy of the 1692 ex-Falmouth long pattern Strad, back in 2012 for a competition but I fell in love with it immediately and had to have it. Mind you, it took me a whole year to persuade Florian to sell it to me as it is such an exceptional copy he didn’t want to let go of it! It has a most beautiful warm sound to it but is also incredibly deep and rich too. And the instrument looks like the real deal, it’s so beautiful. Having held it and played it alongside real Strads of that era there is hardly any difference. People are always asking me what my instrument is, and they never believe me when I tell them!"

Fedor Rudin

Concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra / Vienna Philharmonic, Soloist and Competition Winner

"I play a “Kreutzer” Stradivari copy made by Florian Leonhard. When I got the violin in 2010, it was one of the first copies of antique violins to come out from the workshop. I am so lucky to have it! It has a very warm and powerful sound, which you rarely find in modern violins. Very often after playing a concert on it, when people ask about my instrument, nobody believes this is a modern instrument. Florian’s more recent violins look even more beautiful and antique, but I am very happy with mine and I will continue to enjoy playing on it!"

Vadim Tsibulevsky

1st Concertmaster of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra (Amsterdam), Soloist and Chamber Musician

"I am absolutely in love with this violin. It is so pleasant and easy to play on! It immediately responds to the smallest nuances in sound or colour… the violin has very projective big warm sound with a lot of depth. It feels, looks and, most importantly, sounds like an old instrument. Thank you, dear Florian!"
