George Enescu International Competition Committee
Florian Leonhard’s commitment to supporting young musicians with great potential has been an important part of his philosophy throughout his career. He sees violin competitions such as this as an opportunity for new talent to arise and flourish.
As Jury member for numerous international violin competitions (including the Benjamin Britten, Karol Lipinski, & Henryk Wieniawsky, and Canetti International Competition) Florian Leonhard knows the importance of a fine instrument to a promising player.
When the organizers of the Enescu International Competition contacted Florian he agreed with great pleasure to offer a fine Italian violin to the winner of the 2011 competition for one year.
Inspired by George Enescu, one of the most interesting musicians of the twentieth century, the Enescu International Competition is part of the George Enescu International Festival, which since 1958 has been the most important cultural event in Romania with more than 100.000 people in attendance in 2010.
